Episode 14 - The Hidden Power of Being Helpful
Hi I'm Keith and welcome to Networking Nuggets. Want to know one of the simplest ways to become more memorable in networking? Be useful. I don't mean become everyone's unpaid consultant. I mean genuinely looking for ways to help.
Keith:Many people walk into networking meetings asking who can help me which is understandable but the strongest network is often asked Who can I help? Because helping people create something incredibly valuable. It creates goodwill. You don't always need to solve huge problems. Sometimes helping just means making an introduction, sharing a resource recommending a podcast pointing someone in the right direction.
Keith:When people see you helping without immediately expecting something back trust grows. Networking works best when you stop treating every interaction like a transaction. Some of the biggest opportunities I've received came months or even years after helping someone with something relatively small. Now this doesn't mean becoming a master. Boundaries matter but generosity matters too.
Keith:A practical challenge for you this week ask yourself who can I help? Not because it immediately benefit you but because it's the right thing to do. The best Networking is build relationships by creating value long before they need anything. Because the thing is people often remember who helped them when no one else did.
